Manta Ray Season Predictor

Predict manta ray encounter probability by atoll, month, and moon phase — the most-searched Maldives question, answered honestly.

Unique: weights moon phase (new moon = feeding aggregation spike) and atoll-specific seasonality.

What this solves

Most "best time to see mantas" articles use generic answers. The reality: Hanifaru Bay has a narrow peak (May–November, SW monsoon), aggregations form around new moon, and 50+ mantas can be in the bay in one tide — but only on the right day. Other atolls have year-round individual mantas at cleaning stations.

How to read results

Limitations

Hanifaru Bay access is strictly controlled. Permits are required, group sizes capped, and time in the water limited. Book through a licensed operator.
Manta presence varies year to year — even in peak month, a day with rough seas or wrong tide may have no aggregation. Treat the score as a probability, not a guarantee.

FAQ

When is the Hanifaru peak?

June to October is the peak feeding aggregation, driven by SW monsoon zooplankton blooms. New-moon weeks are best.

Can I see mantas without a boat excursion?

At Baa Atoll resorts, occasionally from the house reef at sunrise. Otherwise, the dedicated excursion is the only reliable way.
